Driving through the desert searching for cacti I spotted some doves and got excited as I saw the doves peeking out a hole in the dirt right next to my car window, I got even more excited when I realized those “doves” were a family of burrowing owls.
I drove back home, got my camera (this is why you should always have it on you) and my Manfrotto travel tripod then drove back to the 5 owls. It was a mistake to only take the travel tripod with me because with a 300mm Nikon lens it was too heavy and any amount of wind shook the camera. I was filming on a Nikon D5000 and with any movement you get a lot of rolling on the film and it shows on a few of the shots.
I was lucky that the lighting was great and I was able to get very close to the owls. They were as interested in me as I was with them and if it wasn’t for the sun waving goodbye to the day I would have stayed longer.
After an hour and a half of taking photos and video I went home and spent the evening editing the video. I hope you enjoy it and find these little feathered animals as interesting as I did.
